See florists, caterers at same-sex marriage expo
by Dan Hlad
Cleveland-American culture has always celebrated marriage as the epitome of romantic love between two people. Unfortunately, same-sex relationships have never been included in this celebration.
The Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Community Service Center and the Human Rights Campaign believe it is high time to honor loving, committed same sex relationships. In jubilant celebration gay and lesbian couples, we proudly introduce Northeastern Ohio's firstever same sex marriage exposition.
"Celebrate! Cleveland Marriage Expo '98" will be on Sunday, June 15 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
"
both locally and nationally.
The Cleveland Marriage Expo will follow the style of most marriage or bridal fairs. Couples thinking of planning their own ceremonies can visit vendor booths representing local florists, caterers, clergy, photographers, reception sites, bakeries, and attorneys.
There will also be information available about legal rights for samesex couples and what's happening with same sex marriage in Hawaii and across the country.
The Center
A first of its kind in Cleveland, the event will take place at Glidden House Hotel, 1901 Ford Drive in University Circle, and will focus on celebrating the unions between gay and lesbian couples. In addition, the Expo will focus heavily on the current political environment surrounding same sex marriage
According to Linda Malicki, executive director of the Center, the event is designed to put a public face to the issues.
"The personal and public celebrations of our families and relationships are healing and empowering and long past dues," Malicki said.
The event is free. For more information, call 216-522-1999.
Dan Hlad is public relations director of the Cleveland Lesbian-Gay Center.
